Questions
How often do banks compound? Indian banks usually compound quarterly on fixed deposits. More frequent compounding gives a slightly higher maturity value at the same headline rate, which is why the option is there.
Is FD interest taxed? Yes. Interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and banks deduct TDS above a threshold. The figure here is before tax.
What if I withdraw early? Most banks apply a penalty and pay a lower rate for the period the money was actually held. This calculator assumes the deposit runs to maturity.
