Questions
Where do the voices come from? Your operating system. That is why the list differs between Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, and why installing more system voices adds them here.
Is my text sent anywhere? No. Speech synthesis runs locally through the browser using voices already on your device. This is genuinely different from speech recognition, which in most browsers streams audio to a remote service — which is why this site does not offer that.
Can I download the audio? Not currently. The browser speech API plays audio but does not expose a recording of it, so saving would mean re-synthesising the speech on a server.
