Questions
What counts as a word? Five characters, which is the standard every WPM figure is based on. Counting actual words would make a passage of short words score far higher than one of long words, so the comparison would mean nothing.
What is net speed? Gross speed minus uncorrected errors. It is the number worth quoting, because typing quickly and wrongly is not typing quickly. Most professional benchmarks use it.
What is a good speed? Around 40 wpm is average for an adult typing prose. Above 70 is fast. Accuracy matters more than raw speed for most work, since fixing mistakes costs more time than it saves.
